Aoun underlines role of religious authorities in fight against corruption

President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, on Friday stressed the role of religious authorities in the fight against corruption.

President Aoun hailed the "role of the Orient Church in promoting spiritual, cultural and social values," stressing the need for the unity of the Christian Churches in addressing current challenges.

Aoun's words came during his meeting at the Baabda palace with the new head of the Supreme Council of the Evangelical Community in Lebanon and Syria, Rev. Joseph Kassab, accompanied by members of the Synod.

Aoun congratulated the new Council members on their election, wishing them success in their new duties.

On the other hand, the head of state met at Baabda Palace with Minister of Water and Energy, Nada Boustani, who briefed him on the progress of work at the Ministry of Water and Energy.

Aoun then welcomed at Baabda palace the head of the IMF mission to Lebanon, Chris Jarvis, and discussed with him the economic situation in Lebanon and the measures that have been adopted to implement the economic growth plan.
