Bahrain attends Arab environment ministers’ meeting

The Kingdom of Bahrain has participated in the 32nd Session of the Council of Arab Ministers in charge of Environmental Affairs, held today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League which coincides with the celebration of the Arab Environment Day.

The session was held under the chairmanship of Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, HE Hisham bin Mohammed Al-Jowder.

The Council discussed a number of important topics on its agenda including the draft decisions prepared by the Executive Office and relating to a number of environmental issues, such as how Arabs deal with climate change issues.

Also reviewed were the preparations for the twenty-sixth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held at the end of this month in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

The meeting followed up on issues of environmental dimension regarding sustainable development goals and Arab position in all environmental agreements on desertification and biodiversity.

The council also discussed reports on the environmental situation in Palestine, the occupied Syrian Arab Golan, Sudan, Somalia, Comoros, Djibouti, Libya, Yemen and the neighboring countries of Syria (Jordan – Lebanon) in addition to the framework strategy for solid waste management in the Arab region.

The Council approved the proposed theme for the work of its 33rd session, as well as the award of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs, selection of the Arab capital for the environment, facing the effects of climate change, the impact of plastic waste on the marine environment, and green recovery after the Corona pandemic.

The delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain comprised the Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Cairo, Ms. Manal Al-Awadi.
