Bahraini-Japanese relations reviewed

Manama, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa met with Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Satoshi Suzuki and his accompanying delegation on the occasion of his official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla hailed the visit of the Japanese official to the Kingdom of Bahrain and re viewed with him distinguished relations between the two countries, regional developments and issues of mutual interest. He also expressed appreciation of the advanced level of bilateral relations in light of mutual keenness to ensure optimal activation of bilateral cooperation agreements and to promote comprehensive partnership to achieve greater stability and prosperity.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla affirmed that relations between both countries are based on solid foundations of understanding and mutual respect, which will contribute to enhancing cooperation in various fields. He referred, in this regard, to regular meetings hold between officials from both countries in implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed during the historic visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Japan in April 2012, as well as the comprehensive security dialogue that resulted from the visit of the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, to the Kingdom in August 2013.

The Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs reviewed the principles of the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its responsible and steadfast stances on regional and international issues. He also cast light on the kingdom's contribution to promoting international peace and security, pointing out the comprehensive reforms, the great achievements and the qualitative initiatives that the Kingdom is undergoing thanks to the reform approach of His Majesty the King.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla said that the launch of the first session of the ministerial meeting of the Arab-Japanese political dialogue last September is a good step to enhance understanding between the two sides, adding to the membership and efforts of the two countries in the Asian Cooperation Dialogue. In addition, Tokyo's hosting of a new round of the Japan-Arab Economic Cooperation Forum this year will contribute to the translation of advanced political relations towards maximizing economic benefits, investment movement and technology transfer.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain represents an important and responsible partner in the Middle East as it provides a pioneering regional model for reform and sustainable development, tolerance and respect of religious freedom and human rights in its broad sense. Besides, he added, Bahrain represents an ideal destination for quality investments within the framework of the Economic Vision 2030. He also highlighted the importance of the dialogue of civilisations and cultures as an effective element in confronting the threat of terrorism, stressing the importance of concerted international efforts to deter countries supporting terrorism and threatening regional and international peace.
