Kurdistan Regional President, Nechirvan Barzani thanked the United States for its support to the region and Iraq in general in the war against terrorism and the defeat of ISIS.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, Barzani received a delegation from the US Congress headed by Democratic Congressman Adam Smith, and the membership of three other members of Congress and discussed, during the meeting, the latest developments in Iraq and the ongoing demonstrations, and the security situation in Iraq.
The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of the Kurdistan region and the US ambassador and the delegations of the two sides, they discussed the progress in relations between Erbil and Baghdad and dialogue between them to solve the problems, and the situation of the disputed areas, and the dangers of ISIS re-emergence and ways to face them and the role and US assistance in this area.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on the situation in the region in general and the developments in Syria and the importance of security and stability in the region.
For his part, Barzani pointed to the reforms in the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and expressed thanks to the United States and other countries of the international coalition that help the Kurdistan region in this area, and considered the success of this process among the main tasks of the presidency and the government of the region.
