BASSIL MEETS WITH EU ELECTION OBSERVATION MISSION DELEGATION, MONACO’S FOREIGN MINISTER

Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Gebran Bassil, welcomed on Wednesday a delegation of the European Union Election Observation Missions (EUEOMs), led by Elena Valenciano, in the company of European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Christina Lassen.

Speaking in the wake of the meeting, Minister Bassil’s Advisor for Diaspora Affairs, Pascal Dohroj, said that the delegation discussed the EU mission to observe the impending parliamentary elections in Lebanon and abroad after submitting a request to this end.

Around 26 election observers will be deployed overseas to this effect.

Dohroj said that Minister Bassil requested the extension of the EU election observation mission to non-EU countries, such as the Latin and North America and Arab countries, especially that parliamentary elections are taking place for the first time outside Lebanese territories.

Several suggestions on this matter were taken up during the meeting.

On the other hand, Bassil met with Foreign Minister of Monaco, Tonelli Gilles, who said that his visit to Lebanon was “to cement the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.”

He noted that diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Monaco date back to 1948.

Discussions also covered means of activating cooperation in the fields of culture, health and vocational cooperation.
