Manama, Commander-in-Chief of Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa patronised today a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the Royal Shields, which is held in conjunction with the 52nd anniversary of BDF.
On arrival at the venue of the ceremony, the BDF Commander-in-Chief was welcomed by Defence Minister Lieutenant General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Nuaimi, Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Dhiab bin Saqr Al Nuaimi, Defence Ministry Undersecretary Major General Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Royal Shields Commander Major General Rashid Abdullah Al Nuaimi and senior officers.
The BDF Commander-in-Chief made a tour and got informed about vehicles, equipment, weaponry and technologies introduced to the Royal Shields. He also watched photos which featured the history of the Royal Shields and its development as well as the military missions assigned with it.
The Royal Shields Commandant gave a speech in which he pointed out the establishment of the Royal Shields as per an order by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, on February 24, 1970, until receiving the flag on February 3, 1971 from late His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, May Allah rest his soul in eternal peace. He lauded the BDF Commander-in-Chief's patronage of the celebration, lauding the unlimited support accorded to the Royal Shields by BDF senior officers.
The BDF Commander-in-Chief hailed the celebration, congratulating the Royal Shields personnel on the occasion and commending their efforts and sacrifice to defend the nation and its achievements. He also paid tribute to HM the King, the Supreme Commander, for his valuable directives which helped BDF assume its responsibilities competently and professionally since its establishment in 1968. He also praised the efforts of the Royal Shields personnel in fulfilling the missions assigned with them successfully, pointing out their heroic role in the Restore Hope operation to back legitimacy in Yemen, within the Saudi-led Arab Coalition forces. He asked the Royal Shields Commandant to convey the greetings of HM the King, the Supreme Commander, and all officials at the General Command to the unit's personnel, wishing them every success.
The BDF Commander-in-Chief was presented with a commemorative gift by the Royal Shields Commandant and was greeted by a number of affiliates.
The celebration was attended by General Command Court Director Major General Hassan Mohammed Sa'ad, Military Advisor Major General Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Assistant Chief of Staff for Supply and Catering Rear Admiral Yusef Ahmed Malallah and senior officers.
