Convicts’ requests to benefit from alternative penalties reviewed

The Verdicts Implementation Directorate at the Interior Ministry has reviewed some requests submitted by convicts to benefit from alternative penalties based on the Decree-Law on penalties and alternative measures endorsed in 2017.

The requests are reviewed per the rules and conditions of the law issued by His Majesty the King, including not posing a threat to public security. In addition, the convicts must have paid all the financial liabilities handed down against them by a criminal court unless it is impossible for them to pay.

The directorate highlighted that after reviewing the social, economic and security aspects of the cases, a list would be drafted of eligible candidates. The list will be referred to the relevant judge to replace imprisonment sentences with various types of alternative penalties appropriate to the individual circumstances of each inmate.
