Education Minister chairs HEC Board of Trustees meeting

Education Minister and Board of Trustees Chairman of the Higher Education Council (HEC), Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, today chaired HEC’s meeting, held virtually.

 

The minister congratulated board members, Legal Affairs Minister, Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf, and Tourism Minister, Fatima Jaffar Al-Sairafi, following their appointment by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to their new posts, wishing them every success in carrying out their duties.

 

During the meeting, HEC Secretary-General and Deputy Chairperson of its Board of Trustees, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Duaij Al Khalifa, gave a presentation about the memoranda submitted by HEC Secretariat-General, and studied by HEC’s Consultative Committee.

 

The panel approved the Secretariat-General’s proposal to develop the licensing procedures of higher education institutions by conducting them through the “Sijillat” platform.

 

It also discussed and approved, in principle, other memos presented by the Secretariat-General on the requests of higher education institutions to launch or host academic programmes, including:

–     Royal University for Women’s hosting of the Master of Science in the Internet of Things, and the Master of Science in Business Intelligence and Analytics, in cooperation with the University Of Huddersfield.

–     The launch of a master’s programme in forensic accounting at Ahlia University.

–     British University of Bahrain’s request to launch a Bachelor of Interior Design and a Bachelor of Architecture.

 

The board also endorsed in principle the Royal University for Women’s request to re-launch the Master of Design Management, and Master of Fine Art in Drawing and Painting programme.

 

The panel also discussed the request of the American University of Bahrain to rename the “College of Architecture and Design” as the “College of Media and Design” and asked the Secretariat-General to contact the university to ensure that students will not be affected by the renaming.

 

It also discussed and approved in principle a request submitted by the Applied Science University to construct an additional academic building in Diyar Al-Muharraq.

 

The Board of Trustees also discussed the Secretariat-General’s memos on requests submitted by higher education institutions to approve their signing of external memoranda of understanding (MoUs), including:

 

–     An MoU between the Royal University for Women and Siena University in Italy.

–     An MoU between the Royall University for Women and UK-based Oxentia international company.

–     An MoU between Ahlia University and the Emirates College of Technology.
