BAGHDAD, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country's forces were conducting military operations in Iraqi territory in order to ensure its security and thwart a 34-year-old plot.
"We reject the scenarios that are being applied in the region, especially Syria and Iraq, and everyone knows what is happening," Erdogan said in a speech on Thursday evening on the occasion of Turkey's Victory Day.
"We are moving forward to thwart a 34-year-old plot by securing our border with Iraq in Qandil," he said.
Erdogan pointed out that this region represents a stronghold of the PKK in Iraq, pointing out that his country is taking "steps to destroy this machine operating for 34 years."
