Baghdad, Member of the Presidency of the House of Representatives Hassan Karim Al-Kaabi stressed the security and stability of Iraq is in the interest of stability of the region as a whole.
A statement by his press office said that al-Kaabi received in his office on Sunday the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Fatih Yildiz, and discussed the bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them in the interest of the two neighboring countries, instead of discussing the regional situation and developments facing the region.
"The security and stability of the security situation in Iraq is in the interest of Turkey, but the region as a whole," he said, adding that the distinguished and historical relations between Iraq and Turkey in the economic, cultural and social fields must be matched by strong and fruitful political relations based on respect for the principles of good neighborliness, calling for "the activation of parliamentary friendship committees and the activation of treaties and related laws between the two sides."
For his part, the Turkish Ambassador stressed his country's keenness to strengthen bilateral relations, especially with regard to the volume of economic exchange and contribute to the reconstruction of Iraq and open the frameworks of close cooperation at all levels. "His country respects the sovereignty and independence of Iraq and is committed to non-interference in its internal affairs."
