Foreign Minister hails Bahrain’s peace move

Manama: A joint meeting bringing together officials representing the legislative and executive branches of government was held this morning.


Chaired by Speaker Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal and Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh, the session was attended by Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani and Parliament Affairs Minister Ghanim bin Fadhl Al-Bouainain.


Heads of the Shura and Parliamentary Committees for Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committees and Undersecretary for International Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa were also present.


The Speaker commended the Government’s cooperation, adding the peace declaration stems from Bahrain’s sovereign rights and vital national interests, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.


She said that the bold and historic step reflects HM the King’s vision and firm belief in the values of tolerance, coexistence and peace between all societies, countries and peoples worldwide.


Addressing the session, she said that the breakthrough would usher in a new phase of stability, peace and security in the region and support to the Palestinians’ inalienable rights conducive to the settlement of the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, the international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.


Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh also hailed the bold and historic declaration of peace between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Israel for the sake of peace in the Middle East, which is in dire need for diplomatic ties, constructive dialogue and cooperation.


The Foreign Minister paid tribute to HM the King, hailing the royal vision which stems from a firm belief in coexistence and tolerance between nations towards achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.


He stressed the importance of achieving peace, stability and prosperity, underlining the necessity of reaching just, comprehensiveand comprehensive peace in the Middle East as a strategic option and settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.


He underlined HM the King’s unwavering support to advocating tolerance and coexistence between nations and faiths, establishing the King Hamad Centre for Global Coexistence.


Alzayani said that the peaceful coexistence represents a key pillar of Bahrain’s foreign policy, stressing commitment to the principle of good neighbourliness with all countries.


“The declaration of peace, which represents an important step for Bahrain, does not target any countries or forces”, he said, stressing the Kingdom’s firm belief in the principle of good neighbourliness, non-interference in internal affairs, the peaceful settlement of disputes as stipulated in the UN charter.
