Foreign Ministry holds meeting with European DG FISMA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting remotely today with the European Directorate General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA), which is responsible for financial crimes and specialised in the Middle East.

The meeting was chaired by the Chief of the Strategic Affairs Sector, Ambassador Nancy Abdullah Jamal, in the presence of the Chief of the European Affairs Sector, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Qarainees, and the Interior Ministry’s Financial Investigation Director, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa.

During the meeting, Ambassador Nancy stressed the importance of intensifying mutual cooperation with regard to combating the financing of terrorism, money laundering and financial crimes, and promoting international cooperation in international listings in a way that contributes to the consolidation of international peace and security, in addition to supporting the Kingdom of Bahrain in the relevant institutions internationally, especially in light of the efforts of the Kingdom to raise institutional readiness, which requires concerted government efforts at the national, regional and international levels.

The meeting also touched on the political steps taken by the Kingdom to strengthen cooperation in important issues, especially those related to combating international terrorism and its financing, in light of the efforts focused on the cooperation agreement between Bahrain and the European External Action Service (EEAS), signed in February 2021, which included the fight against terrorism as one of its main components.

It is worth noting that this meeting reflects the utmost importance that the Kingdom of Bahrain attaches to promoting joint efforts among international partners in order to combat the financing of terrorism and dry up its sources to ensure global peace and stability.
