Future bloc condemns Netanyahu’s threats: Attempts to link Lebanon’s fate to the regional conflicts

Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri chaired today at the Center House the meeting of the Future parliamentary bloc. At the end of the meeting, the bloc issued the following statement read by MP Hadi Hobeich:

First: The return to the policy of raising the ceilings of ministerial demands, proposing new equations for the formation and considering the governmental lineup a gift box from which we give presents to whom we want and prevent others from getting presents-, reflects the existence of wills that are not in a hurry to form the government, but to sink the country in a new experience of disabling the institutions and suspending the constitutional work.

In this regard, the bloc regrets the cloning of past blocking experiences, and the lack of awareness of the serious damage they caused, both in terms of deepening internal factors of dispute or in terms of its high cost on the growth of the economy and the finances of the state.

It has become known to all Lebanese that the cost of disruption, reluctance, lack of initiative, loss of opportunities and political clashes in recent years, constitute the biggest burden that the treasury suffers from, under the pressure of entitlements that can no longer be overlooked or covered.

And if the political forces and parties call in private and public occasions for uprooting corruption and stopping the growing squander in the state, everybody should understand that the peak of squander lies in policies that lead to delaying the formation of the government, disrupting the work of institutions and moving from an open political crisis to another, which could enable administrative and financial corruption to control many parts of the country.

In this regard, it is enough to mention that the percentages of the declared estimates of the general budget are 30% salaries and wages, 30% cost of public debt, 30% support for electricity and 10% for state projects and services for the Lebanese.

These estimates should constitute a warning for all those involved in the management of public affairs, and a warning for the presidency, Parliament and government, that staying in the whirlpool of entanglement and fabrication of excuses and conditions and returning to square one in the process of forming the government, are unacceptable and should be stopped by with initiatives shared by all, especially the forces concerned by the obstacles, which are known by all citizens.

The Future bloc calls on the political forces to facilitate the task of the Prime Minister-designate to break the cycle of standards and counter standards, and choose the public interest and mutual concessions imposed by internal and external challenges.

The Prime Minister-designate will spare no effort in this regard. He is betting on the activation of contacts and continues to seek to form a national entente government, whose parties are united in addressing all events and risks.

Second: The bloc noted the intensification of regional conflicts on many fronts, and stressed that the interest of Lebanon requires, more than ever, to commit to disassociation and to avoid messages that harm our relations with Arab brothers.

The bloc stresses that Lebanon will not be the arena for other's conflicts on its soil nor the scene of regional missile balances. Lebanon cannot be part of external equations and axes that make it an arena for these conflicts. It warns against the dangers of the threats mentioned by several Israeli officials and against the dangers of making populist reactions that contribute, deliberately or unintentionally, to isolate Lebanon from the responsible dialogue with the international community.

The bloc strongly condemns and rejects the threats stated in Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the United Nations. It calls on the international community and all friends in the world to understand the real objectives of these threats and attempts to link the fate of Lebanon to the conflicts in the region.

The bloc also highlights that the protection of civil peace and the solidarity of the Lebanese at this stage constitute the most powerful weapon in the face of Israel's threats, and that breaking the rules of national unity and national accord, offers the enemies free gifts that place Lebanon and its people in the range of the dangers threatening it.
