HH Shaikh Khalid expresses pride in Bahrain’s success in maintaining IMMAF top ranking

Manama: HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, has expressed utmost pride in Bahrain’s success in maitaining its top position in the IMMAF-WMMAA ranking in 2020, pointing out that the Kingdom has succeeded in achieving major accomplishments in the MMA sport over the past four years.


“Our vision began in 2015 by forming KHK MMA team for professional and amateur fighters. Our goal was clear; to conquer the world. This has been achieved as Bahrain is dominating the MMA scene at the regional and international levels as our champions have bagged 89 medals, including 35 gold, 17 silver and 37 bronze medals during their participation in various major events, notably winning the Asian MMA Open Championship title, besides securing second and third places in the African Open Championship,” HH Shaikh Khalid said.


The Kingdom’s successful defence of its top position came thanks to the national team’s victory in the Australian Open Championship.


HH Shaikh Khalid stated that this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the patronage of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, of the MMA sport, and the support of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, National Security Advisor and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports to our efforts in developing it.


“We are keen to support the Bahraini youth and encourage them to practice this sport. We have managed to provide a safe environment for them, thus we have seen many Bahraini fighters top podiums as part of the KHK MMA team and the national team,” HH Shaikh Khalid explained.


“Bahrain has managed to win the IMMAF’s confidence after hosting the World Championships for three years in a row, starting from 2017,” HH Shaikh Khalid added.


Meanwhile, he revealed that he had instructed KHK Sports to collaborate with the KHK MMA team to launch a development programme to incubate fighters and hone their skills. One of the most dominant athletes in amateur mixed martial arts, two-time Bantamweight Junior amateur world champion Muhammad Mokaev who is part of the KHK MMA.  Mokaev boasts an unbelievable 23-0 amateur record and has been at the top of the Junior Ranking since becoming world champion for the first time.
