The Council of Representatives has extended sincere congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, marking the Bahraini Press Day, celebrated every year on May 7, in line with the royal directives.

The Bahraini press has been one of the most important pillars of nation-building, progress, culture and enlightenment in Bahrain, through its rich history, pioneering personalities, well-established institutions, responsible staff, and national efforts in light of the comprehensive development process led by HM the King, the Council said in a statement.

The Bahraini press is characterised by professional practices, objective analyses, freedom of opinion and responsible expression, it added.

The Council affirmed its keenness to debate and to approve the draft law regulating the press, printing and publishing in implementation of the aspirations, visions and directives of HM the King, the champion of the Bahraini press, and in appreciation of the press role and the status of journalists.

The draft seeks to develop the press and media sector in the Kingdom according to a modern vision.

The Council expressed its thanks to the Bahraini press personnel for their responsible national role in highlighting achievements, defending the interests of the nation and people, strengthening national values and societal cohesion, confronting threats and boosting national societal awareness.

The Council hailed the outstanding role of the Bahraini press in confronting the repercussions of COVID-19 within Team Bahrain.
