HRH Princess Sabeeka’s paintings displayed at SCW’s digital expo

Manama, Mar. 9 (BNA): The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) held a digital expo, in cooperation with the UN Women Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS), and ROAS’ office in Bahrain.

Entitled “Athar (Impact) Expo for Digital Arts”, the expo was held at the Bahraini women’s monument, “Athar”, which is located at the Bahrain FinTech Bay.

The three-day event is held marking the International Women’s Day, which falls on the eighth of March of each year, and on the sidelines of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women CSW67, which is the largest annual gathering in the United Nations on equal opportunities, gender equality and the empowerment of women. CSW67 focuses on innovation, technological change and education in the digital age to advance work to bridge gender gaps in this field.

The exhibition features a selected sample of paintings by a number of young male and female artists, as well as selected works of art with creative and artistic touches by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King and SCW President.

SCW Secretary-General, Hala Al-Ansari, UN Resident Coordinator in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Khaled El Mekwad, and Bahraini artist Leena Al Ayoobi spoke during the exhibition, attended by UN Women’s officials, President of the National Council for Arts, Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, artists and specialists.

Al-Ansari said that the idea of the expo was proposed by the SCW’s Youth Committee.

She expressed pride in the existence of a number of paintings by Bahrain’s First Lady, HRH Princess Sabeeka at the expo, noting that HRH is an ardent supporter of the artistic movement in the kingdom, and is keen to support Bahrain’s talented artists.

Al-Ansari invited everyone to visit the exhibition and discover the opportunities offered by modern technology.

She expressed her thanks and appreciation to the participating young artists for their enthusiasm, stressing the SCW’s keenness to listen to their experiences and ideas. She also thanked the sponsors of the exhibition, especially Zain Bahrain.

UN Resident Coordinator in Bahrain said that the SCW’s organization of the expo in cooperation with the UN and marking the International Women’s Day will contribute to shedding light on the kingdom’s efforts in the fields of equal opportunities and gender balance.

Josephine Moss, of UN Women ROAS, affirmed that the artistic works displayed by both male and female artists prove the ability of art to keep pace with modern technologies, and the most important topics such as equal opportunities between the sexes.

Artist Leena Al-Ayoobi, in her statement, on the digital dimension of art, including NFT applications, which made the possession of artworks digitally a reality, and paved the way for everyone, men and women, to be creative and innovative.

The digital artworks participating in the exhibition include messages that focus on the influential and prominent role of Bahraini women in the nation-building process, and highlight their growing national role since the establishment of the SCW.

The expo will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday, from 05:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
