Ibrahimovic ruled out of Sweden’s World Cup qualifiers

AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been ruled out of Sweden’s upcoming world Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Greece with injury, his club and country confirmed on Saturday.

Sweden coach Janne Andersson had this week said he hoped Ibrahimovic, who turns 40 on Sunday, would recover from a knee injury to be available to play but has admitted defeat, reports dpa international.

Ibrahimovic came out of international retirement earlier this year but also missed out on Euro 2020 with injury. He has only played once for Milan this season and will also sit out their Sunday Serie A clash with Atalanta.

Sweden are second in qualifying Group B behind leaders Spain going into home games against Kosovo on October 9 and Greece three days later. Only group winners qualifying automatically for next year’s world cup finals.
