Information Minister praises national media freedom

Information Affairs Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Romaihi hailed the press media freedom in the Kingdom of Bahrain in light of the wide-ranging development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.

He hailed media strides in an address marking Bahrain Press Day, which is observed annually on May 7, amid celebrations marking the World Press Freedom Day.

He saluted the press and media community, extending deepest thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his support to press and media freedom of the right of expression.

He lauded the role of the national media, as an integral part of Team Bahrain, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

“This national occasion is an opportunity to highlight Bahrain’s press and media freedom under the wise leadership of HM Majesty the King”, he said.

He lauded the role this vital sector has enabled in carrying out its duties in the fullest manner, describing the national media as the first line of defence in thwarting attempts to target the security and stability of the homeland and undermine its social cohesion.

He said that the malicious media campaigns being orchestrated against the Kingdom of Bahrain is systematic and has well-known and exposed goals, adding that these outlets have turned their platforms into hotbeds of extremism, hatred rancor.

“Bahrain is celebrating more than 80 years of print and audio media and 100 years of women’s participation in the elections and political participation”, he said.

Meanwhile, we sess these offensive campaigns adopted by those who do not know the meaning of a free and responsible press, have not exercised democracy and the right to express opinions, or witnessed the establishment of civil society organizations, the freedom to set up trade unions”, he pointed out, adding that the Kingdom of Bahrain has has embarked throughout its history on these practices which are enshrined in the Constitution.

The minister hailed the national press which confronted these suspicious campaigns, adding that all loyal Bahrainis stand united in support of HM the King’s vision.

“Our national media will remaina beacon of creativity and knowledge, and a symbol of national unity”, said the minister.
