Iraq Is The Second Importer Of Iranian Goods, At About $ 5.9 Billion

Baghdad  The Director of the Office of Arab and African Affairs at the Iranian Trade Development Organization, Farzad Piltan, announced that Iraq is ranked second in the list of export markets for goods with a value of $ 5.9 billion within 9 months for the period from March 20 to December 20 of last year.

The Iranian official stated on the organization’s website that exports to Iraq recorded about 20 million tons, a growth of 7 percent on an annual basis.

He pointed out that the Iraqi market got about 23.6 percent of Iran’s total exports in the aforementioned nine months, and came first among the neighboring countries and second in the export markets.

He pointed out that the most important non-oil exported commodities are iron, tomatoes, tomato paste, spare parts for steam turbines, urea, plastics, cement, foodstuffs, sweets, melons and water conditioners.

He indicated that one of the most important obstacles that encountered Iranian exports to Iraq in the fiscal year (starting on March 20, 2020) was the closure of ports and border markets for about 3 months and the disruption of holding trade fairs and the exchange of delegations due to the Coronavirus pandemic, as well as export restrictions in the field of steel and Iraq’s tightening of importing agriculture products, a decrease in exports of dairy products compared to the previous year. ”
