Irish President concludes his 4-day visit to Lebanon

The President of the Republic of Ireland Michael Higgins and his spouse, Sabina Marie, and their accompanying delegation left Beirut this afternoon, ending a four-day official visit to Lebanon at the invitation of President Michel Aoun.

The visit was a chance to hold official talks with senior Lebanese officials alongside the President of the Republic, most notably with House Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad Hariri. The Irish President also visited southern Lebanon, inspecting his country's contingent operating within the UNIFIL peacekeeping forces.

Head of the Honorary Mission, Displaced Minister Ghassan Atallah, Governor of Mount Lebanon Mohamed Mekkawi, Commander of Mount Lebanon's Military Zone, Brigadier General Zakhia Khoury, Airport Security Commander, Brigadier General George Doumit, and ISF Commander of Mount Lebanon, Colonel Jihad al-Asmar, were at Beirut Airport to bid the Irish President and his accompanying delegation a safe return.
