Kardel visits Hariri: I reemphasize the UN’s continued support for Lebanon’s stability and prosperity

Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri received today at the Center House the United Nations Special Adviser on Innovative Financing for Development Philippe Douste-Blazy.

Hariri also met with the Acting United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Dahler Kardel.

After the meeting, Kardel said: "I want to thank Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri for receiving me again and for having had yet another really constructive conversation about the state of affairs and the developments in the country and the region".

She added: "I also want to thank the Prime Minister for the very constructive meeting we had last night where he had invited the international partners for a conversation about the situation in the country, the progress and the state of affairs. It was really useful to get a briefing and an update and it was really helpful for our common understanding.

One of the things that was also stressed last night from everybody in the international community side was the continued partnership with Lebanon and I want to take this opportunity to re-emphasize the UN's continued support for Lebanon's continued stability and prosperity. We stand with Lebanon for the future too."

Hariri had held a meeting yesterday evening with the ambassadors and representatives of the International Support Group for Lebanon. The ISG is constituted of the United Nations and the governments of China, France, Germany, Italy, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States, together with the European Union and the Arab League.

It was launched in September 2013 to help mobilize support and assistance for Lebanon's stability, sovereignty and state institutions and to specifically encourage assistance for the Lebanese Army, Syrian refugees in Lebanon, host communities and government programs and public services impacted by the Syrian crisis.
