BAGHDAD, The MP for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Beston Zangana called the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, designate Prime Minister, Adel Abdul-Mahdi to re-engage the Peshmerga and Asayish to protect the outskirts regions and inside the province of Kirkuk after security breaches and frequent explosions and violence.
"The contribution of Peshmerga forces to protect Kirkuk regions comes in their efforts to combat Daesh terrorist and their sacrifices in preserving the security of Kirkuk and the people of the province in all its components over the past four years and in repelling terrorist attacks in the areas adjacent to Kirkuk and its outskirts," he said in a statement.
"The experience of the Peshmerga forces in chasing sleeping cells and arresting many terrorists in coordination with the local police forces and the Iraqi army in protecting the province with all its components for many years since 2003 is important to return," Zangana said.
Zangana stressed that "the participation of Peshmerga forces will have a major role in protecting the entrances of the province, thus protecting the lives and property of the people of the province and put an end to these almost repeated violations that led to the martyrdom of many citizens and security forces and significant material damage to private and government properties."
He explained that "the participation of Kurdish security forces comes in accordance with the Iraqi constitution, which stressed the joint administration in the areas subject to Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution."
It is noteworthy that Kirkuk has witnessed, during the past period, security breaches led to a number of victims and injured.
