Baghdad Member of Parliament Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani confirmed that there are 3 proposals that we will include in the budget to protect the poor and middle classes from the effects of economic reforms.”
Al-Sudani said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / that the budget is certainly a step towards reform and is part of the required measures according to the white paper, but including a change in the exchange rate, deducting salaries and imposing taxes, is unacceptable, because it has a negative impact on the poor, middle and classes with limited income”.
He added, “We have observations and proposals to protect these classes and provide protection for them, by amending the minimum wages for employees, which would have been 600 thousand dinars and social protection and securing the ration card items.”
Al-Sudani pointed out that these measures will ensure the protection of the poor class against any economic reforms that may harm them.”
He stressed the keenness to approve the budget within a month, so that the government commits to its obligations towards the country and its people.
The House of Representatives yesterday completed the first reading of the current year’s budget, which consisted of 58 articles. It is scheduled to start its second reading tomorrow, Monday.
