The head of the committee, Salam Al-Shammari, said in a press statement: “Solving the outstanding issues between the two sides regarding the water file, including the cooperation protocol in the Tigris River and the activation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2009 and updated in 2014, is of utmost importance to ensure Iraq’s water share.”
Al-Shammari expressed his hope that the Turkish parliament would approve the updating of the agreement to enter into force, which would end the years-long crisis.
He explained that “Iraq is open to Turkey to implement proposed and joint projects, including the establishment of the proposed research center in Baghdad to exchange experiences and seek assistance from specialists in the field of water security.
