Pedersen: We are doing our best to implement Resolution 2254, hope for Syrian-led political track

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil received on Tuesday evening the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, who said after the meeting "My main message to Lebanon is that my team and I are doing our utmost to implement UN Resolution 2254. We hope there will be a Syrian-led political track, under our facilitation. We had good talks on Syrian refugees."

Petersen reportedly briefed Bassil on the developments in the internal situation in Syria, and informed him that security is in place in Damascus and a number of other cities.

"The UN deems that a positive step that could contribute to a political solution," Pedersen said.
