Premier’s call for establishing UN taskforce to mitigate COVID-19 impacts praised by Speaker

Manama: Speaker of the Council of Representatives Council, Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, has lauded the initiative launched by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to establish a taskforce comprising UN Member States, called “Friends of the UN Secretary-General”, to mitigate the negative impacts of the novel coronavirus on efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).


She affirmed that the widespread appreciation and backing of the initiative by the participants in the “Bahrain Visions Forum”, held yesterday virttually, reflect the prestigious status enjoyed by HRH the Prime Minister at the international level, as well as his success in honouring the kingdom at international gatherings, and bringing about landmark achievements to the nation, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.


The speaker confirmed the full parliamentary support for all efforts aimed at confronting the negative effects of the pandemic on endeavours to achieve SDGs.


She added that HRH Premier’s call for developing a global strategy that would enhance peoples’ right to health security, being an integral part of global security in its comprehensive sense, confirms Bahrain’s civilisational approach.
