Bahrain’s Public Prosecution has organised a webinar workshop on international best practices and applications of the provisions of the Restorative Justice Law for Children, a preparatory initiative preceding the execution of the Restorative Justice Law for children and their protection from Maltreatment.

The workshop was organised under the patronage of Chancellor Wael Rashid Buallay, Senior Advocate General and Acting Attorney General, and attended by a number of prosecutors and representatives from the relevant authorities at the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Development.

The workshop was presented by the international expert, Paula Jack, who addressed several topics, including international standards and best practices in the restorative justice courts for children, the role of the Judicial Committee for Childhood with regards to children at risk and abuse, the duties of law enforcement officials, and best interests of children during the procedures taken against them. She highlighted the main aspects of cooperation and coordination between the relevant authorities concerned with the application of the law for the purpose of achieving its goals and objectives.

The workshop is one of several activities organised by the Public Prosecution as part of initiatives to prepare concerned officials and relevant authorities to implement the law, which will enter into force on August 18.
