Manama, The establishment of an integrated time plan for the implementation of the initiative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on food security for the development of hydroponics and fish farming has been announced.
Minister of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Isam bin Abdullah Khalaf said the implementation of the initiative would boost the contribution to local production of vegetables to 20 percent and increase the contribution to auto-sufficiency in fish from 50 to 62 percent.
Khalaf made the announced as he chaired a meeting dedicated to the royal initiative and attended by undersecretaries and officials.
The minister expressed gratitude to HM the King for his directives to approve the projects submitted by the ministry, to allocate the required plots of land, to establish a government company for each type of agricultural and fish projects, and to dedicate a part of Ras Hayyan area for investment in fish farming.
HM the King's deep interest in food security constitutes an important basis for current and future generations in Bahrain and the ministry will spare no effort to put the royal directives into action to fulfil the royal aspirations and to benefit the Kingdom, the minister added.
The meeting reviewed the proposed projects to expand advanced agricultural models in hydroponics and fish farming and to support Bahraini youth to work in agriculture and fish farming with innovative technologies that would help with building a promising generation trained on the use of modern methods.
