Saleh, during his meeting with the Governor General of Australia, stresses the importance of expanding cooperation between the two countries in all fields

Baghdad, The President of the Republic Barham Salih received Tuesday at the Salam Palace the Governor-General of Australia, Peter Cosgrove.

Saleh stressed in a presidential statement "the strong relations between Iraq and Australia, stressing the need to strengthen and activate the agreements signed between the two friendly countries and in the common interests of the two peoples."

During the meeting, Saleh thanked Australian Governor General for Australia's supporting to Iraq in its war against Daesh terrorist organization, through the military effort within the international coalition against terrorism, and the continuation of Australian forces in supporting the Iraqi army through the development of combat skills.

Saleh also praised Australia's role in humanitarian aid, especially in the area of aid to displaced people, calling on Australian companies to "contribute to the reconstruction of liberated areas and rehabilitation of infrastructure in Iraq."

He pointed out "the importance of expanding cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially in the sectors of education and agriculture," indicating the aspiration of "Iraq to increase scholarships to Australia."

For his part, Cosgrove confirmed "the determination of his country to move forward in supporting Iraq, in human and military fields," adding that his country aspires to strengthen its relations with Iraq in all fields."
