The "Strong Lebanon" parliamentary bloc on Tuesday criticized the initial government lineup Prime Minister-designate, Saad Hariri, had submitted to President Michel Aoun, and warned of an attempt to overstep the President's powers.
"The PM-designate described the lineup he submitted yesterday to the President as initial (...) our bloc rejects the monopoly of sects' representation as it goes against democracy," MP Ibrahim Kanaan told reporters following the bloc's weekly meeting, held under the chairmanship of Caretaker Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil.
"The bloc sees an attempt to overthrow and disrespect the results of the parliamentary elections," he said, adding that there is a bid to tamper with the President's powers under the pretense of Taef Agreement.
"We respect the powers of all the constitutional institutions and we refuse the persistence of the pattern that has been adopted since Taef," he added.
"Everybody must realize that this pattern cannot happen with the current President," he stressed.
