Supreme Judicial Council holds regular meeting

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) yesterday (September 2) convened for its regular meeting.

Presiding over the session, SJC Vice Chairman, Court of Cassation President, Chancellor Abdulla bin Hassan Al Bouainain hailed the efforts of the judiciary to execute the provisions of the Restorative Law for Children and their protection from maltreatment, which took effect last month.

He lauded the strides which were achieved so far, citing mainly the formation of the children’s restorative justice courts, the dates for convening the Judicial Committee for Childhood and its decision-making mechanism, the naming members of the Judicial Committee assigned to commute the penalties imposed on children before the law comes into force.

He commended the efforts of the Judicial Committee concerned with replacing the sentences imposed on children and starting its work on the 22nd of last August, in addition to issuing the first ruling of the Judicial Committee for Childhood.
