Manama, Animal Resources Undersecretary at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Dr. Khalid Ahmed Hassan, said that the Works Ministry welcomes and encourages foreign investments that contribute to achieving food security and taking advantage of technology and modern techniques to increase animal production.
While receiving the newly-appointed Bahraini Ambassador to Brazil, Badr Abbas Al-Hulaibi, the undersecretary said that achieving sustainable food security requires focusing on many areas, including increasing animal products (poultry and eggs), using modern technology, such as industrial intelligence, investment in agricultural lands in countries that are politically and economically stable and possess the necessary natural resources to provide fodder, in addition to diversifying food sources.
He highlighted the directives of the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, to encourage foreign investments, consider the private sector as a key partner in food security, and encourage Bahraini companies to invest in the animal sector and facilitate their work in coordination with countries with which it is possible to launch joint investments.
During the meeting, the undersecretary requested Ambassador Al-Hulaibi to open channels of communication with the Brazilian side to take advantage of modern technologies to support the livestock sector in the field of breeding, as well as to increase the import and export of livestock and red and white meat, in addition to veterinary medicine between the two countries, affirming that the Animal Resources department welcomes foreign investments in the livestock sector.
He stressed the need for coordination to know the Brazilian authorities and companies wishing to invest in livestock production in the Kingdom.
The two sides proposed to organise a livestock sector investment forum aimed at arranging meetings between major food and agricultural companies in Brazil and large Bahraini companies in this sector wishing to engage in joint investments between the two countries.
They also proposed creating a protocol through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to regulate joint cooperation between Brazil and Bahrain in many economic and veterinary fields.
The envoy highlighted the desire of the Brazilian side to increase trade exchange with regard to animal products and livestock, which would enhance food security in the Kingdom and open new horizons for Bahraini importers.
He also said that he will also communicate with the stakeholders in Brazil to achieve what has been agreed upon through diplomatic channels.
