Vacancy of seat of Israel, the only nuclear power in the Middle East, does not indicate good intentions

New York, Saudi Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya al-Muallimi stressed that the vacancy of the seat of Israel, the only nuclear state in the Middle East, during the Middle East Conference on the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, does not indicate good intentions.

This came during the kingdom's speech delivered by him today at the opening session of the Middle East Conference on the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.

The ambassador said, "The failure of the international community to fulfill its obligations on the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East has had negative repercussions on the region and the world..."

He pointed out that this international inaction caused the continued policy of nuclear ambiguity for some countries and non-fulfillment of their obligations towards their nuclear programs, and the use of economic returns to destabilize the security and stability of the region and interfere in the affairs of neighboring countries and provide terrorist groups with weapons and ballistic missiles.

He stated that Saudi Arabia affirms that the responsibility for freeing the Middle East from nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction is not confined to the countries of the region, but is a collective international responsibility.
